Undaunted, the Canadians won the bronze medal with a 2-1 overtime win over Sweden. Raffi Torres scored 37 seconds in to the extra frame to give Canada a solid third place finish. After dominating the round-robin, the Czechs won three straight one-goal games to claim the gold medal. After edging Switzerland 4-3 in the quarterfinals, the Czech Republic earned a narrow 1-0 win over Sweden in the semifinals. The Finns, led by Ahonen and top goal scorer Jani Rita, awaited the Czechs in the gold medal game, and it was another tight affair. Vaclav Nedorost scored the winner in the second period as the Czechs prevailed 2-1 to win their second straight title. Although the playoff games were close, the Czechs swept the awards show, claiming all three trophies. Tomas Duba was the top goaltender, Rostislav Klesla was the best defenceman, and Pavel Brendl, who won the scoring title with 10 points, was the top forward.
